Tebo — an innovative startup that takes high school education to a new level — to participate in one of the most important educational technology events in New York
The open resources (OER) platform Tebo that enables teachers to upload and download studying materials from each other will be participating in Lift off NYC — one of the most relevant educational technology start-up events of the year taking place on 27-28 September in New York.
“Tebo is a great example of an open educational resources platform with 25% of the teachers registered within only the first year in Estonia, the country of origin of Tebo.” Estonia is known as one of the world’s most successful e-states, where e-services like e-healthcare, e-residency, e-voting, and declaring taxes online are commonplace. It is also the birthplace of Skype.
The introduction of open educational resources in the education system has been strongly endorsed by the U.S. government (e.g. the national #goopen campaign), which is why Tebo’s next major step is to enter the U.S. market, according to Tonis Kusmin, CEO of Tebo. “In our home country, we have become the largest open study material bank within only a year. Now we wish to repeat our success story in the U.S. and participating in Lift off NYC is the first step toward this end,” says Kusmin.
The headliner of Lift off NYC is Matt Greenfield who owns the venture capital firm Rethink Education that invests in educational innovation. The event will also feature two of the largest start-ups in New York focused on educational technology, DreamIt and StartEd, the manager of New York iZone (innovation in New York City schools), and Adam Friend who organizes start-up events in the field of educational technology in the state of New Jersey.
Tebo is a platform established in 2015 for sharing study materials from teacher to teacher, managing them, sending home assignments to students, carry out tests, show educational videos, and monitor the study activities of students.
Tebo also grants a cash award of 35% of its sales revenue to the uploaders of the most popular study materials. After participating in a recent 6-month accelerator in Chile, Tebo also entered the Spanish-speaking markets in South-America.
The CEO of Tebo Tonis Kusmin is available for the interviews in New York on Monday 26th of September and on Thursday 29th of September. For more information, visit the company’s website.
