Fourth-quarter revenues at Taiwan-based IC distributors including WPG, WT Microelectronics and Answer Technology (ANStek) will be driven by a seasonal pick-up in demand for smartphones and other mobile devices, as well as demand for automotive electronics and other end markets, according to the companies.
WPG remains optimistic about demand coming from the smartphone and automotive sectors. The company has posted August revenues of NT$46.99 billion (US$1.5 billion) – the highest level since December 2015.
WT Micro has said demand is rising from all sectors. The company saw its August revenues reach an all-time high of NT$14.3 billion, which represented increases of 26.4% sequentially and 56.9% from a year earlier. WT Micro’s cumulative 2016 revenues through August grew 9.6% from a year ago to NT$82.98 billion.
WT Micro estimated previously third-quarter revenues at between NT$37.5 billion and NT$40.5 billion which would represent sequential growth of 24.6-34.6%, driven mainly by demand for handsets.
ANStek, which distributes mainly products for Analog Devices (ADI) and Xilinx, has started shipping high-ASP FPGA chips to the aerospace sector. ANStek has also enjoyed rising shipments for integrated analog and RF high-performance modules that yield higher gross margin, the IC distributor said.
ANStek generated revenues of NT$2.13 billion in the first eight months of 2016, down 5.2% on year.
Semiconductor packaging material and equipment distributor Niching Industrial has reported August revenues soared 27.7% sequentially to NT$85 million thanks mainly to capacity expansions at many backend houses. Niching’s cumulative 2016 revenues through August totaled NT$589 million, down 11.9% on year.
