T-Mobile is working on its 5G network and during tests with Nokia, Ericsson, and Samsung, the carrier reached speeds of 12 Gbps. That result is around three times faster than what Verizon reported during its trial in February 2016. Both network systems are many times faster than LTE.
5G is expected to roll out in the next few years and it could take a while before the technology is widely available and adopted as a standard in the industry. Once it is available, speeds will definitely be improved to a significant degree.
The speeds in these tests don’t reflect what individual users will see when 5G is deployed, but they do reflect how superior 5G is to LTE.
To prepare for the era of 5G, T-Mobile is working with the FCC, Deutsche Telekom (its owner), and standards bodies.
