System76 is one of a handful of companies that sells computers that ship with Linux pre-installed, which means folks who have no plans to use Windows don’t have to pay for a license and they don’t have to install and configure an operating system on their own.
The company’s entry-level 14 inch laptop has been available with 7th-gen Intel Core “Kaby Lake” processor options for a while. Now System76 has also updated its higher-performance laptops.
The System76 Oryx Pro, Serval WS, and Bonobo WS laptops are now all available with Kaby Lake chips and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 10 series graphics.
While the entry-level Lemur laptop has a low-power, dual-core Kaby Lake-U processor, these laptops have higher-power Kaby Lake-H or Kaby Lake-K series chips.
Some models are also available with up to a 4K display, up to NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 graphics, and each model supports up to 64GB of RAM.
In fact, you can even opt for dual GTX 1080 graphics cards in the 17.3 inch Bonobo WS.
There are multiple storage options thanks to a series of M.2 SSD connectors and 2.5 inch drive bays. All told, you can stuff as much as 10TB of storage into one of these heavy duty laptops.
Prices start at $1399 for a System76 Oryx Pro with a 15.6 inch full HD display, a Core i7-7700HQ processor, NVIDIA GTX 1060 graphics, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage.
Have a little more money to burn? The Bonobo WS mobile workstation has a starting price of $2799, but you can end up spending nearly $10,000 if you max out the specs.
These laptops weigh between 5.5 pounds and 10.6 pounds, which makes them quite a bit less portable than most of the notebooks we pay attention to at Liliputing. But since System76 laptops are some of the only models that come with Linux pre-installed, I like to keep tabs on what’s new from the company.
System76 offers a choice of Ubuntu 16.04 or Ubuntu 16.10 software for each of these notebooks.
Rival ZaReason also offers notebooks with Intel Kaby Lake processors, but while some models are available with NVIDIA GTX 9xx series graphics, so far the company hasn’t offered any GTX 10 series options.
