Synology has introduced a new 12-bay desktop NAS server for the enterprise segment, its most powerful offering yet. With an aim to deliver high performance, the NAS server is equipped with an Intel Xeon D-1527 quad-core processor with a base clock of 2.2 GHz and 2.7 GHz boost clock.

Synology claims the DS3617xs delivers read speeds of up to 2,358 MB/s under a RAID 5 configuration with optional 10GbE and Link Aggegation enabled. It is capable of highly impressive write speeds as well, almost hitting 2,000 MB/s. Packing 16GB of DDR4 ECC RAM, the DS3617xs ensures data accuracy when handling high-value data and mission-critical tasks. For more complex requirements, the memory can be further upgraded to 48GB. Similarly, the high-performance NAS server can be connected to either one or two dedicated DX1215 expansion units, allowing business consumers to expand storage capacity up to 36 drives without disrupting service. The DS3617xs also comes with a PCIe 3.0 x8 slot, which can be used to install an optional 10 GbE Network Interface Card (NIC) to maximize bandwidth. For most businesses, the four built-in Gigabit ports should suffice however.

Reliability is of course a key concern for businesses. The DS3617xs offers comprehensive redundancy mechanisms to ensure business continuity. The four built-in LAN ports with failover provide reliable redundancy in the event of unexpected network failure. It also includes a fanless CPU heat-sink and passive cooling technologies to prevent a single point of failure.

The business NAS comes with a 5-year warranty and has been priced at upwards of 1500 EUR in Europe.
