Swatch Working On Its Own Smartwatch Operating System

Not everyone is willing to pay Google to use its Android Wear 2.0 operating system for wearables. Samsung has been using Tizen for some time now, LG is also rumoured to be working on its own OS, and we are now hearing that the popular Swiss watchmaker is also developing its own operating system.

The company’s CEO Nick Hayek confirmed this in an interview, saying a Tissot-branded watch is due in late 2018 and will be first device to ship with the software. The new operating system will consume less power and also better protect data.

“There’s a possibility for wearables to develop as a consumer product, but you have to miniaturize and have an independent operating system,” the CEO said.
