Subaru has received a permit to test autonomous vehicles in California, bringing the number of companies with permits to 22. The Autonomous Vehicle Testing Permit was obtained from the DMV on February 9.
It hopes to add features like lane switching and auto-steering to vehicles by 2020. Those abilities will move Subaru’s models in the direction of Tesla’s Model S and Model X.
What features will be tested by Subaru using this permit isn’t known.
Among some of the other approved companies are Nvidia, Google, and Baidu. Many of them aren’t traditional automakers.
