To keep backers in the loop and potentially reduce complaints, Star Citizen developer Cloud Imperium Games will begin sharing its internal timeline. While the company’s target dates are bound to change over time, showing them to the public gives supporters a better idea of where things stand.
Star Citizen’s crowdfunding campaign began in 2012 and the game has been in development for years. As the project has grown in scope, targets have been missed. Some parts of the game are already available, but the whole game has a ways to go.
Whether or not to share this kind of information has been a long running debate among the team here at Cloud Imperium Games. Target dates are not release dates, and everything you see will shift at some point, sometimes slightly and sometimes wildly. The danger in doing this has always been that casual observers will not understand this, that there will be an outcry about delays every time we update the page. – Chris Roberts, director, Star Citizen
Cloud Imperium’s internal development schedule will be updated weekly following Star Citizen Alpha 2.6, which should be out next month. The schedule will always be available on the Roberts Space Industries website.
Here’s how the schedule and target date info will look:
