Spotify appears to be adding a higher quality streaming tier to its service. Its new “Hi-Fi” option is similar to what’s offered by Tidal, a much smaller music streaming service, and it includes CD-quality tracks. Some users began seeing the option this week.
It appears to cost $5 to $10 more per month than the usual $10 fee. Those who attempted to sign up during this testing period were presented with a page that said Hi-Fi wasn’t currently available.
For at least a small portion of Spotify’s 40 million paying users, this could be a nice option and it’ll give the service more revenue.
