Some of the ads on the free version of Spotify have contained malware, according to a user report on the Spotify forum. The report says merely having the music streaming service open is enough to let the malware open your default internet browser and expose you to malware/virus sites.
Other reports have appeared regarding the same issue, all of which deal with the desktop version of Spotify. Windows 10, Ubuntu, and macOS are affected.
Spotify is looking into the issue and will presumably get rid of the malicious ads quickly.
