Spotify for Windows phones will no longer receive feature updates, …

Spotify is now winding down support for Windows phone users – or rather – acknowledging that it is winding down support for users of its Windows phone app.

The firm will no longer be updating its app with new features going forward but will limit its updates to critical security updates. Ths means Windows phone users won’t get “new” features like Spotify Discover, Spotify Running and Release Radar. Like stated above, this is merely an official acknowledgment of the status quo as even when Windows phone was “supported” it still managed to be months – if not years – behind other Spotify clients.

Microsoft’s Groove Music is a much better music service for Windows phone in any case – but the loss of Spotify isn’t going to be endearing to both new Windows phone buyers.

Here’s the statement:

Spotify for Windows Phone has been placed into maintenance mode. Thus, we will only be making critical security updates to the current Spotify app and not releasing any new features nor improving support for old devices going forward. Users can continue to use Spotify on previously supported Windows Phones and Spotify will remain on the Windows Store.

We will continue to work closely with Microsoft to ensure the best experience on Windows platforms and are constantly evaluating the most effective path going forward.

You can still download Spotify from the Windows phone store.
