Special Display Cutout On iPhone 8 Causing Low Yields

264

Apple might not achieve what it has planned with iPhone 8 in terms of sales, at least not at first. There are two reasons – the cost of the phone, which is expected to start at around $1,200, and low yields of OLED panels.

We have already reported that Samsung started mass production of the panels, but due to special requirements, only 60% of the OLED panels received by the contract manufacturer are usable, but the exact reasons were unknown until now. The yields are low due to the specific cutout on top of the display.

Shipments of Apple’s upcoming iPhone 8 could be either delayed or limited as Samsung can’t improve yields over night.
