A replica city is being constructed in South Korea for the purpose of autonomous vehicle testing. Part of the 3.45 million square-foot facility is a four-lane highway. In total, the setup includes “highways, downtown areas, city outskirts, and communal environments.”
This will give automakers a way to test their technology in life-like environments before putting software or hardware on the road.
The first section of the facility (the highway) is now open and South Korea will finish it later in 2018.
Known as K-City, the setup is located 20 miles from Seoul. It can be used by companies like Samsung, SK Telekom, and Hyundai, which are all working on self-driving car technology.
