Shortly after Apple announced new iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus and Watch Series 2, Sony unveiled new gaming consoles. As expected, the company has unveiled two new PlayStation 4 consoles – the slimmer version of the original PS4 and the more powerful PS4 Pro.
The new PlayStation 4 is a thinner version of the original PlayStation 4. Although it was expected to be called PlayStation 4 Slim, Sony decided to keep the same name as its predecessor. As for the changes, Sony didn’t reveal much. From the images, we can see that the USB ports have been repositioned and are now spread apart on the front of the system, along with the power and eject buttons. It has rounded corners and slimmer design, but we have no information on the specifications. The slimmer PlayStation 4 will be available on September 15 in most markets and will cost $299/€299/£259.
The main topic of the event was the new PlayStation 4 Pro, also known as PS4 Neo or PS4K. The console comes with upgraded GPU, higher clock rate, interoperability and a larger 1 TB hard drive. The goal of the console is to output smooth 4K and HDR video.
The existing games will still work on PS4 Pro, and Sony says that the same discs and downloads will work on both models. The company added that a number of older games will be updated to look better on the PS4 Pro.
