Sony has announced that it sold 53.4 million PlayStation 4 units thus far. The brand had a stellar holiday season, during which it moved 6.2 million units. Digital sales were also strong, with Sony stating that it sold over 50.4 million games during the holiday season. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End did particularly well, with the game selling over 8.7 million copies since its debut.
The president and global CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Andrew House, thanked fans and partners, and said that the brand will continue its strong sales momentum by adding new titles and services this year:
We will aim to continue the momentum this year by broadening the PS4 title portfolio, further enriching the revolutionary gaming experiences on PlayStation VR and high quality gaming experience on PlayStation 4 Pro, while also expanding network services. We will remain steadfast in making the PS4 the best place to play.
With VR gaining momentum, we’ll likely see Sony give the PSVR added push in terms of marketing this year. We’re also in store for more VR titles making their way to the PlayStation later this year.
