Sky, a media and broadcasting company in the UK, is expanding into the mobile business. It’ll soon sell plans as a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) and preorders for those plans begin October 31. Only Sky’s existing customers will initially have access to the mobile offerings, but that’ll change over time.
As it already offers cable and satellite TV packages, Sky may try to get a leg-up on the competition by bundling mobile service in relatively affordable plans.
Sky does intend to provide mobile contracts to entirely new subscribers at some point and the service will likely roll out in early 2017.
Mobile service is coming from O2’s network.
