The Sinclair ZX Spectrum Vega+ is a handheld gaming system designed to run old-school games developed for the Sinclair ZX Spectrum. It also happens to come with a thousand fully-licensed games pre-loaded.

Following a successful crowdfunding campaign, the makers of the retro handheld game system have announced that the Sinclair ZX Spectrum Vega+ will begin shipping on October 20th.

If you missed out on the campaign when it launched earlier this year, you can still pre-order a system for £100 ($130), but only the black version is still available. There are no longer options to reserve a limited-edition red, blue, or white model.

Each device features a small 4:3 screen that can reproduce the original ZX Spectrum’s 256 x 192 pixel imagery, D-pads and action buttons, SD card slots, a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack (which can also be used as an audio/video output for connecting the game system to a TV), and emulation software to let the system behave like ZX Spectrum.

The system features a Freescale ARM9 processor, 16MB of RAM and 64MB of flash storage and it should get around 6 hours of battery life.

As EuroGamer notes, the announcement of an October 20th launch date follows a series of legal issues, but it looks like the system is now set to ship to backers of the crowdfunding campaign in less than a month. It’s also expected to be available via retail channels later this year (in time for the holidays).
