Donald Trump’s victory earlier this month has left some people worried about how privacy will be handled under the next presidential administration. Those concerns may be leading to a rise in the use of encryption. Signal, one of the top encrypted messaging apps, says it’s seen a 400% increase in the rate of installations since November 8.
Millions of people were already using the app prior to the election, says Open Whisper Systems, the app’s creator. Open Whisper Systems co-founder Moxie Marlinspike revealed the app’s growth while speaking on Marketplace, a program from American Public Radio.
