Encrypted chat app Signal is testing voice and video calling in its latest beta. Those features will take the secure communication software beyond text. Beta users can test the features with others who have access to them.
Signal is trying out “next generation voice and video calling” on Android and iOS. You can enable them from the Settings area.
When making a call, you’re presented with voice, video, and mute icons.
Signal is attempting to make itself a Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp competitor while remaining a security-centric service.
Moxie Marlinspike of Open Whisper Systems, the creator of Whisper, says more details about the feature will be out when it’s publicly available.
