Taiwan-based networking device makers SerComm and Gemtek Technology have continued to strengthen their deployments in the small cell sector and will begin to ramp up shipments of related products, according to industry sources.
SerComm is expected to ship over 1.2 million small cells in 2016, making it the third largest vendor globally, said Ben Lin, co-founder and CTO of SerComm.
SerComm will also begin to work with telecom operators in Taiwan to build up small cell systems that will interact with operators’ core networks or marocells, said the company.
In addition to the Taiwan market, SerComm has also stepped into the small cell markets in the US, China, Japan, and India.
Meanwhile, Gemtek said it will begin volume production of small cells in the second half of 2016 although initial shipment volume will be limited.
The utilization of unlicensed spectrum technologies, including Wi-FI and LAA (licensed assisted access) technologies will help drive the growth of the small cell market, said the sources.
