Scalebound’s lead producer has left Platinum Games

214

The ill-fated Scalebound was going to be one of the Xbox One’s biggest games, but the project ended up falling apart late last year after a variety of issues. The cancellation was made official in early January, and still stings to this day.

It seems as though it might still be stinging the game’s developers at Platinum Games as well. JP Kellams was the former lead producer of Scalebound, and was heavily involved with the project from the very start. He had enough control of the project that he led a team of over one hundred developers at the time the game was cancelled, and he’s just left the company after being with them for nearly a decade. Before his time at Platinum, he spent some time working at Capcom, both working on localization and game writing.

He made this official with a post on his Instagram account, stating that embracing new challenges is “part of his DNA” and that he’s excited to share some news about what he’s working on next when he can. He ends the message on a positive note – “Platinum maintains its luster forever”.

It’s certainly sad to see Kellams leave company, and there’s a nearly endless list of possible reasons why, given the Scalebound situation. We wish Kellams the absolute best of luck with wherever he goes next, and hope his next projects go well.
