Samsung to Announce Results of Galaxy Note 7 Probe Next Week

Samsung will be holding a media briefing on Monday, January 23 at 10am at the company’s head office in southern Seoul, South Korea. The tech world is highly interested in this event, considering that Samsung will be announcing the results of its investigation into the Galaxy Note 7.

The smartphone was announced in August and soon after it was released many owners claimed that the phone started catching fire when charging. Samsung issued a statement and quickly launched an official recall of the smartphone.

Most of the phones were replaced in September and October with new units carrying batteries made by a different supplier. Samsung did say at the time that it started an investigation on the matter and even some Korean government agencies were involved.

However, it seems that Samsung’s replacement Galaxy Note 7 smartphones were also affected by problems that caused them to catch fire. In the end, Samsung announced a second recall of its latest flagship and discontinued the smartphone. Most of the units have been returned to Samsung, some are still at users in the US and other countries, while carriers like Verizon are thinking about software updates that would brick the phone or block it from placing outgoing calls.

Third-party labs will present their results soon

A Samsung spokesperson has just confirmed that the results of Samsung’s investigation into Galaxy Note 7 phones will be announced on Monday, according to The Investor. Samsung has conducted investigations internally and it has also contracted third-party laboratories, like Korea Testing Laboratory.

The Korean Agency for Technology and Standards has conducted its own separate investigation and results will be made public in the coming weeks. Sources say that Samsung found an issue with the battery inside the Galaxy Note 7 and that the phone didn’t have issues connected to its hardware design or software, as it was previously thought. Samsung is also expected to announce the internal measures that it implemented to avoid such incidents in the future.
