Samsung today announced its newest consumer SSDs aimed at the high-performance segment, the 960 PRO and 960 EVO.

The new 960 PRO and 960 EVO M.2 SSDs utilize a new Samsung Polaris five-core SSD controller, which allows these drives to raise the bar of consumer SSD performance. The 960 PRO is claimed to hit maximum sequential read and write speeds of 3,500 MB/s and 2,100 MB/s, respectively. Random read and write IOPS go up to 440,000 and 360,000, respectively.

The 960 EVO is no slouch either with maximum sequential read speeds of 3200 MB/s and write speeds of 1900 MB/s. Random read speeds go up to 380,000 IOPS while random write speeds reach 360,000 IOPS.

The 960 PRO lineup will be available in 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB capacities while the 960 EVO line will be available in 250GB, 500GB, and 1TB capacities. The Samsung 960 PRO has been priced at $329.99 for the 512GB version, $629 for the 1TB version, and $1299 for the 2TB version. Similar to the 950 PRO drives, the 960 SSDs too will come backed by a 5-year warranty. Endurance rating varies from 400TBW in case of the 512GB version, 800TBW for the 1TB version, and 1200TBW for the 2TB version.

The 960 EVO on the other hand has been priced at $129.99 for the 250GB version, $249 for the 500GB version, and $479 for the 1TB version. These drives come with only a 3-year warranty. As for endurance, the 250GB version has a rated endurance of 100TBW, while the 500GB and 1TB versions have an endurance rating of 200TBW and 400TBW, respectively.

Both the new 960 PRO and EVO SSDs will go on sale worldwide beginning next month. They will also come with an all-new and fully rebuilt Magician software with a new user interface that will allow users to control various SSD settings including firmware updates.
