Samsung Officially Confirms To Disable Charging On Unre…

217

Shortly after we heard rumours that Samsung is allegedly preparing another software update for the Galaxy Note 7 that will disable charging on unreturned units, the company went ahead and officially confirmed the rumours. Instead of the rumoured December 15, the update is expected to start rolling out on December 19.

Samsung says that with the latest update, it will “prevent U.S. Galaxy Note7 devices from charging and will eliminate their ability to work as mobile devices.” However, not all carriers have decided to participate in the rollout, precisely just Verizon. Reportedly only 7% of the Galaxy Note7 units sold in the US have not been returned.
