Last week a Galaxy Tab S2 running Android 7.0 Nougat was spotted in a benchmark database suggesting that Samsung might eventually offer those who own the tablet the option to upgrade to the latest version of the OS.
More recently, the Galaxy Tab S2 visited Wi-Fi Alliance, the organization that certifies Wi-Fi products. What makes this newsworthy is the fact that the slate certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance runs Android 7.0 Nougat.
There are six Galaxy Tab S2 variants that have been certified at Wi-Fi Alliance, all running Android 7.0 Nougat: SM-T817 (international), SM-T817P (Sprint), SM-T817R4 (U.S. Cellular), SM-T817A (AT&T), SM-T817W (Canada), SM-T817T (T-Mobile), and SM-T817V (Verizon Wireless).
Having received Wi-Fi certification, the Galaxy Tab S2 is now one stop closer to getting the long-awaited update. Sadly, Android 7.0 Nougat is likely to be the last major OS update the tablet gets from Samsung.
We’re expecting the update to go live for unlocked units first, but, hopefully, carrier-branded versions will be upgraded to Android 7.0 Nougat soon after that.
