A Wall Street Journal report published today claims Samsung may not announce the Galaxy S8 at the Mobile World Congress in February next year. The reason behind the delay is said to be increased stress on pre-release quality testing, which isn’t surprising given the whole Galaxy Note 7 recall fiasco. The Galaxy S8 could go on sale as late as April, which would mean the smartphone could be announced sometime in March at a dedicated Galaxy Unpacked event.
The report also claims Samsung is considering adding a dedicated AI launch button on the Galaxy S8, which would give users quick access to the Bixby smart assistant, developed by Viv Labs Inc, the company that created Siri.
Meanwhile, some new rumors out of China suggest the Galaxy S8 will not come with a 4K resolution display. Instead, the next Samsung flagship will stick to the same 1440 x 2560 Quad HD resolution as the Galaxy S7. While most people aren’t going to notice a difference between a QHD and 4K on a 5.1” display, a jump to 4K would have allowed for a much better VR experience as the higher pixel density would result in greater clarity.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 is rumored to pack Samsung’s Exynos 8895 SoC, dual-rear camera setup, and an optical fingerprint sensor.
