Soon after the official announcement of the Galaxy Note 7, rumors began flying about Samsung working on a variant with 6GB of RAM for the Chinese market. Samsung recently confirmed the existence of this variant, and the company’s Chinese website has now revealed that the 6GB RAM Galaxy Note 7 could go up for pre-order in China on August 26th, around a week before the regular Note 7 will launch in markets outside the US.
Aside from 6GB of RAM, this model also has 128GB of internal storage, double of what the standard variant offers. Other specs aren’t going to change, so the device should come with a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED Edge display, the Snapdragon 820 processor, 12-megapixel rear camera with Dual Pixel autofocus, a 5-megapixel front camera, a microSD slot, a 3,500 mAh battery with fast wired and wireless charging, an iris scanner, a USB Type-C port, and Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. There is no word yet on how much the higher memory model will cost.
The 6GB RAM variant is expected to remain exclusive to the Chinese market, where a lot of smartphones are available with memory exceeding that of many laptops. The Galaxy S8 will probably offer 6GB of RAM across the globe, but at this point Samsung is simply thinking of giving to consumers in China what they have reportedly been asking for.
