A new GFXBench listing has revealed that Samsung is currently working on the successor to Galaxy A7 (2016), which was released in December last year. The smartphone, carrying the model number SM-A720x), could turn out to be a decent upgrade over the Galaxy A7 (2016), provided the specs revealed in the listing are accurate.
The Galaxy A7 (2017) won’t be very different from its 2016 counterpart in terms of the display. The 2017 model is listed to feature a similar 5.5-inch display with 1080 x 1920 Full HD resolution. Under the hood, the variant caught on GFXBench seems to be powered an Exynos octa-core SoC clocked at 1.8 GHz, along with the ARM Mali-T830 GPU. In terms of memory, the Galaxy A7 (2017) will include 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. While the RAM is identical to the Galaxy A7 (2016), storage is twice as high.
The most significant upgrade seems to be in the camera department. According to the GFXBench listing, the Galaxy A7 (2017) will feature a 16MP primary camera at the back, with support for 1080p Full HD video recording. For selfies, there will be a 16MP camera on the front as well, capable of shooting videos at up to 1080p resolution. If the device does come with a 16MP camera on the front, it would be a huge upgrade over the 5MP selfie camera on the Galaxy A7 (2016). While there are a number of smartphones out there with 16MP or higher resolution cameras on the front, Samsung has so far stuck to 5MP or 8MP resolution selfie cameras on its smartphones.
Since the Galaxy A7 (2016) was launched in December last year, Samsung could announce the Galaxy A7 (2017) before the end of this year. Along with the Galaxy A7 (2017), Samsung is also said to be working on the Galaxy A3 (2017) and the Galaxy A5 (2017).
