The oft-leaked Galaxy A (2017) smartphones could be launched on January 5 in Malaysia, as revealed by an event invite sent out by Samsung. The 2017 edition of the Galaxy A smartphones are interesting in that they are set to be the first mid-range smartphones from Samsung to feature water-resistance, which has been exclusive to the company’s flagship line. It’s possible an official announcement could precede the Malaysian launch, although at this point most of what the new phones will offer has already been leaked.

The Galaxy A5 (2017) and Galaxy A7 (2017) are expected to feature 5.2-inch and 5.7-inch Full HD Super AMOLED displays, the Samsung Exynos 7880 octa-core SoC, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, 16-megapixel front and rear cameras, USB Type-C ports, and 3,000 and 3,600 mAh batteries. Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow is expected to power the handsets, and Samsung is likely to release a Nougat update a few months later. Not a lot is known about the Galaxy A3 (2017), but the device should feature mostly the same specs except for a smaller screen and lower capacity battery.

The Galaxy A (2017) smartphones are expected to be launched in four color options: gold, black, blue and pink. Their design should be similar to Samsung’s Galaxy S6 smartphones according to a recently leaked image, with glass on the front and back and metal on the sides. Pricing and availability information is not currently available, but that should change soon after the phones are official announced in the first week of January.
