Samsung today announced its latest flagship mobile SoC, the new Exynos 9 Series 8895.

Built on an advanced 10nm FinFET process, the Exynos 8895 features the company’s second generation custom CPU core and an all-new ARM Mali-G71 GPU to deliver supreme graphics performance for UHD and VR experiences on the move. Samsung says graphics performance has been improved by up to 60% when compared to its predecessor. The GPU also supports 4K encoding and decoding at 120fps, which is quite impressive. There is even a Vision Processing Unit that recognized and analyzes items or movements for improved video tracking, panoramic image processing, and machine vision technology.

The chipset also integrates a 1Gbps LTE-Advanced modem with support for aggregation of up to five carriers. The modem supports download speeds of up to 1Gbps with 5CA (Cat.16) and upload speeds of up to 150Mbps with 2CA (Cat.13). It also supports advanced features such as FD-MIMO and LBT for LAA.

According to Samsung, the 10nm FinFET process allows the chipset to deliver 27% higher performance while consuming 40% lower power consumption when compared to the previous generation Exynos SoCs build on the 14nm LPE FinFET process. Like the Exynos 8890, the new Exynos 8895 is an octa-core SoC with four 2nd Gen Samsung custom designed CPU cores and four Cortex-A53 cores.

The Exynos 8895 chip is currently in mass production and is expected to power Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ flagship smartphones.
