After creating Siri, which has become an important part of Apple’s software, a team in the AI field formed Viv. Unveiled earlier this year, Viv seems to be a more advanced AI assistant, one that could certainly compete against Apple’s Siri. Due to its obvious application in the market, Samsung has acquired Viv, marking one of its largest steps into the AI arena.
Interestingly, Samsung may not turn Viv into a Siri competitor. The company is instead interested in using the AI system to “revolutionize how users interact with our devices and appliances.”
Viv is more open than similar systems from Google and Apple, allowing it to grow as a result of work from third-parties.
The acquisition details were not revealed, though all of Viv’s 30 employees are moving to Samsung.
