Rumor: Mediatek Helio X27 deca-core SoC in the works

238

Targeting the mid-range segment, MediaTek is reportedly working on a new deca-core tri-cluster SoC. The chipset could be marketed as the Helio X27 and is going to be manufactured using a 20nm process.

Similar to the current deca-core Helio SoCs, the Helio X27 will feature two clusters of four 64-bit ARM Cortex-A53 cores and two Cortex-A72 high-performance cores. Based on the CPU-Z screenshot below, it looks like the Cortex-A72 cluster will be clocked at 2.6 GHz, while the Cortex-A53 clusters will be clocked at up to 1.6 GHz.

The Helio X20 as well as the Helio X25 deca-core chipsets have been quite popular among Chinese Android OEMs, so we expect the Helio X27 to become quite popular as well. What we do not know yet however, is if the Helio X27 will offer significant performance gains over those chips, especially in the graphics department.

The first smartphone powered by the Helio X27 chipset will apparently be a LeEco smartphone, which actually happens to be the device that you see in the image above. Since it is going to be powered by the Helio X27 SoC, we expect it to be a mid-range or upper mid-range offering. No other specs have been rumored yet, so they remain a complete mystery, at least for now. We also have no info on when the Helio X27 could be announced. It could happen this year or it could be unveiled early next year as well.
