While most reports so far have suggested Apple’s 2017 iPhone models will bring major upgrades over their 2016 predecessors, a new article posted by Japanese Apple-oriented website MacOtakara claims Apple will launch the iPhone 7s and 7s Plus next year with the same aluminum design as the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.
The only “significant” change will apparently be under the hood. As expected, the Apple iPhone 7s and the iPhone 7s Plus will be powered by the next-gen A11 chipset, which should be significantly more powerful than the current A10 chipset powering the iPhone 7 duo. Res of the internals are expected to be upgraded as well, with newer connectivity features and perhaps faster memory as well.
In addition to the upgraded internals, the report claims Apple will introduce an all-new red color option with the iPhone 7s models. The new red color will join the existing Black, Jet Black, Gold, Rose Gold, and Silver color options.
Numerous reports, including one from the Japanese publication Nikkei Asian Review have suggested that Apple will move to a bezel-free glass design for its 2017 iPhone, in order to integrate wireless charging tech. The most expensive new iPhone model next year is also expected to sport a curved OLED display, with the circuit boards for the display coming from Korean suppliers.
However, MacOtakara has a decent track record with leaks in the past, so we cannot completely rule out the possibility of 2017 iPhones being relatively minor upgrades over the current models, at least in terms of the design.
