According to a report out of Korea, Samsung has started work on its 2018 flagship handset titled the Samsung Galaxy S9. The work on next year’s phone doesn’t usually start this early; after all, the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8+ were just unveiled less than two weeks ago and neither one will be released until April 21st. According to anonymous sources, Samsung is 6 months ahead of its usual time schedule as it has already started working on the display for the Galaxy S9.
The report adds that the early start for the Galaxy S9 is tied to the manufacturer’s new and improved quality control process that was implemented following last year’s recalls of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7. Battery issues caused several models to explode forcing Samsung to pull the device off all store shelves. A refurbished version of the phablet with a smaller capacity battery will apparently be sold in Asia.
Samsung is also working on its next phablet, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, under the code name “Great.” Rumored features include a 6.32-inch display, a fingerprint scanner on the front under the display, and a virtual home button. The Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8+ both have their fingerprint scanner placed on the back next to the camera lens. This has been a controversial location for it since users are apt to smudge the camera lens with their fingers while trying to unlock either device. If this report is true, Samsung has heard the complaints in time to change the placement of the fingerprint scanner in time for the Galaxy Note 8’s release later this year.
