While Samsung’s next flagship smartphone is expected to arrive only in April next year, rival LG is apparently planning to unveil the G6 earlier than expected. According to a report coming from South Korea, LG is currently hoping to announce its next flagship smartphone in late February or early March. The Mobile World Congress 2017 will also be held in late February, so we do think that there is a high possibility that the G6 could be made official in Barcelona.
An official announcement at the Mobile World Congress would mean the G6 could be up for sale in a few markets starting March, with wider availability slated for April. LG has traditionally been a bit slow in rolling out its devices across the globe after the official announcement, so we don’t think LG will be able to ship the G6 in most markets within one month of the official announcement.
The report claims LG believes that it can increases sales volume of the G6 by launching it before Samsung releases the Galaxy S8. It also confirms recent reports which suggest the G6 will not feature a modular design like the G5. Instead, the smartphone is rumored to feature a water resistant body with a “highly reflective material” on the back. Some of the other rumored specifications include the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 octa-core SoC, wireless charging support, and an “all-in-one” selfie camera module that will also integrate an iris scanner.
