Comment on Quicken WillMaker Plus 2012 by S. Brown “Mac User”.
Great product, but file translation needs to be fixed.,
PROS:
User interface is great
Easy way to make an accurate, important document
Introductory video is clear and informative
Free updates are automatic
Currently, Amazon price for CD with book ($36.94) is reasonable; software available as download-only from NOLO site for $34.99, or with CD for $51.99.
Package includes abridged edition of “The Legal Answer Book for Families”
CONS:
Free updates are only available through end of 2012
This program is still not available for Mac OSX
The data from my 2006 files were lost when it was opened in this version. (downgrade for this)
No upgrade path readily available; software is valid through 2012 only (updates no longer available after 2012, but software should still run, albeit with possibly outdated data).
Registration purportedly includes:
* Expert technical support
* Significant discounts on Quicken WillMaker upgrades; and
* A $10 coupon for purchase on nolo.com
What I got was:
* a free electronic download of “101 Law Forms for Personal Use”;
* a coupon code for 15% off items at nolo.com

NOLO press is famous for creating easy-to-understand legal books and software. I previously used WillMaker 2006 and found it to be a good, solid program that was relatively painless to navigate. This edition is somewhat improved from that version. The software automatically looked through my files for any old versions of my will and asked if I wanted to open the one it found. The file was opened and supposedly translated from the old version to the new format automatically and made available for editing. Since creating a will requires digging up and entering a significant amount of information, using and editing my past data would have significantly reduced the time required to create the new one. However, ALL of my data was lost in the translation; I was left with a blank file with only my name on it. Bad!!!
WillMaker includes the ability to create a will and/or five other major, applicable documents:
* Health Care Directive (Living Will and Power of Attorney);
* Durable Power of Attorney for Finances;
* Final Arrangements (non-binding instructions for those caring for your remains); and,
* Information for Caregivers and Survivors.
