Qualcomm may be the talk of the town with its upcoming Snapdragon 835, but the company doesn’t only rely on its high-end chipset to carry it through the year. The latest information from China’s Weibo suggests that Qualcomm is also looking to maintain its stronghold with mid-range SoCs by introducing two successors to the Snapdragon 625, which currently powers popular budget-friendly handsets like the Moto Z Play and the Xiaomi Redmi 4.

The new SoCs will go by the names of Snapdragon 630 and Snapdragon 635 and are said to be enhanced versions of the Snapdragon 625. Both chipsets are said to use the same octa-core arrangement with eight Cortex-A53 processors that the Snapdragon 625 has, but will likely benefit from superior power management and heat reduction.

In addition, Qualcomm is also said to be in the process of developing a Snapdragon 660 chip which would be manufactured using the Samsung 14nm LPP (performance boosted) process. An octa-core arrangement will also be present here, but Qualcomm is likely to use a combination of the Cortex-A53 and A73 processors. The chip is expected to be revealed around September, and rumor has it that Chinese smartphone makers Xiaomi, OPPO and Vivo will make use of it in their upcoming handsets.
