Poll Technica: best headphones for sweaty runners?

274

Who says nerds don’t exercise? A little-known secret about the Ars Orbiting HQ—except perhaps to those of you who follow the staff on Twitter—is that we have a growing group of runners among us with experience levels ranging from “just getting started” to “working on my next marathon.”

I fall somewhere in the middle. I’m about to begin training for my second half-marathon (the first one nearly killed me, but I’m back for more punishment), but I have a problem with headphones. As it turns out, I apparently sweat a lot from my head and temples, which tends to get into my ears and eventually fry whatever headphones I have chosen to use for the season. At this point, I’ve fried about four pairs of standard Apple earbuds and one set of low-end Skullcandy earbuds, and a quick poll around the Orbiting HQ (and Twitter) revealed that I’m not the only one who faces this problem. As we enter into spring here in the US, I’m looking for a new set once again that’s good for a little rough treatment and can withstand a lot of sweat.

I recently asked my Twitter followers for suggestions on earbuds that fit this description and are also fairly affordable, but the deluge of responses left me with an overwhelming number of options. So, we runners on the Ars staff decided to ask you, our loyal readers, to narrow down the field. Below are five sets of headphones that got the highest number of recommendations on Twitter. Please vote on which one you think would be best for a runner who sweats a lot, or if you have different recommendations, let us know in the comments! Help us, Ars readers. You’re our only hope (for un-fried headphones)!
