Philips has introduced the BDM4037UW, claimed to be the world’s largest curved 4K monitor. The 40-inch monitor features a 10-bit panel offering 3840 x 2160 resolution.
The BDM4037UW uses a high performance VA panel with optimized pixel management technology, allowing it to deliver 178/178 degree viewing angles. While it may not please professionals, the monitor does boast of ‘Ultra Wide Color’ 85% NTSC color gamut coverage, which is higher than the typical 72% coverage seen on most monitors. In terms of brightness, the monitor is said to reach peak luminance of 300 nits, which is not bad at all.
The MultiView feature lets users have up to four different inputs show on the screen – each in Full HD. The pictures can be arranged in two different ways: 1) The Picture-by-Picture mode, which is useful in control rooms or for using multiple devices like notebooks side-by-side to make collaboration more productive. This mode splits the screen in several partitions; 2) The Picture-in-Picture mode, e.g. for watching a news feed in a small window while working on the entire rest of the screen.
As expected from a modern 4K monitor, the BDM4037UW uses a W-LED backlight with Philips Flicker-free technology to prevent eye fatigue. Connectivity options include VGA, DisplayPort x 2, HDMI 1.4 – MHL x1, HDMI 2.0 – MHL x1, USB 3.0 x4 (1 with fast charging support), headphone out, and PC audio-in. The monitor also includes two 5W built-in speakers. The integrated stand offers tilt adjustment up to 5/10 degree.
The monitor is currently available in the UK for a RRP of £589.
