Panasonic has announced a new Android tablet for consumers who care more about durability than anything else. The new FZ-A2 tablet comes with IP65 rating for dust and water resistance, along with military-grade MIL-STD-810G certification. That means the tablet can withstand quite a bit of rough abuse, making it ideal for users working in extreme conditions.
The FZ-A2 features a 10.1” 1920 x 1200 WUXGA resolution “outdoor display” with a high peak brightness of 800 nits. Powering the tablet is the Intel Atom x5-Z8550 processor with Intel HD graphics 400. In terms of memory, the tablet includes 4GB of RAM and 32GB of built-in storage.
The back of the tablet includes an 8MP primary camera, while on the front there is a 2MP unit for video calls. Panasonic claims the FZ-A2 can deliver up to nine hours of battery life, which is quite decent for a 10-inch tablet. You can even replace the battery yourself, something that is not possible with most tablets. On the connectivity front, the FZ-A2 offers Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8260, optional Gobi 5000 for 4G mobile broadband, Bluetooth 4.2 + EDR Class 1, 1 USB 3.0 port, 1 USB 3.1 Type-C port, 1 HDMI, 1 Port Replicator connector, and audio out. The tablet runs on the now outdated Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system out of the box, with no confirmed update to Android 7.0 Nougat.
Panasonic has priced the Toughpad FZ-A2 tablet at $2,189, which is definitely on the higher side.
