Oukitel K5000 Unboxing and Design
Looking at phones under $150 one cannot expect too much. However, Oukitel is a company with its own factory and usually, they deliver high quality and very durable devices. K5000 is no exception.
Oukitel K5000 surpasses other low-cost smartphones with its big 5000mAh battery and HD+ display. Let’s face it – who doesn’t want a big battery especially combined with an 18:9 aspect ratio full display? Regarding screen-to-body ratio Oukitel have done geat with 80% display on a budget price with thin bezels on all sides!
Although Oukitel K5000 is missing the headphone jack, it packs a USB-C to 3.5 mm headphone jack cable. Before you go crying about it the audio quality is very good through the USB-C, much better than any cheap phone I’ve tested this year! Other features worth mentioning before moving to the full review are the USB-C fast charger and the rounded plastic back of the phone, just great for one-hand usage.
K5000 weights 222 g – more than usual but this is to accommodate the huge battery.
Oukitel K5000 supports 4G LTE Bands 1, 3, 7, 8 and Band 20. So it will work in Canada, some parts of the USA and everywhere in Europe and Asia. Gyroscope, geomagnetic sensor and compass are also included in this budget package.
This low-price smartphone has the largest language-supported base I have seen up to now. OUKITEL K5000 also runs Stock Android Nougat with the October security patch.
Moreover, it supports split-screen multitasking with a very decent performance.
OUKITEL K5000 18:9 Aspect Ratio FullView Display
The jewel in the crown is definitely the HD+ display of Oukitel K5000. It is a 5-point multi-touch display, with very good colours and deep blacks. Although Oukitel K5000 is 5.7″, it doesn’t feel larger than most 5.5″ phones on the market.
Furthermore, the phone supports MiraVision with the option to fine-tune the blue light filter, the dynamic contrast and the text size as well. Oukitel K5000 has very good brightness even in direct sunlight though not great. However, it is one of the finest displays on the market in this price range.
The 18:9 aspect ratio really brings OUKITEL K5000 ahead of the competition around that price. Sure, there are higher resolution offerings, but with decent brightness, great colours and deep blacks the panel really stands out.
OUKITEL K5000 Review: Battery Life and Performance
Looking for a great media device? Oukitel K5000 makes a stunning movie and clips watching experience. You can get 10 to 15hrs. watching media on a single charge. This 5000mAh battery is fully charged for around 2 hrs which is definitely a good deal. You can get 8 to 13 hrs of Screen-On-Time and even 6, 6hrs and a half of doing only gaming. Very good stats for a late 2017 budget phone as expected from a company as Oukitel.
Let’s continue to the GPS tests. Locking inside the house was a bit of a challenge for the phone but outside OUKITEL K5000 locked instantaneously.
The 4G LTE speeds are better than any $150 device we have tested recently. AnTuTu benchmarks and all benchmarks are on par with the Snapdragon 430 and 435. The Octa-Core chip MediaTek MT6750 inside Oukitel K5000 is a budget one but provides decent performance.
Speaking of daily real-life performance, Oukitel K5000 keeps up with our expectations. Since it runs the light Stock Android Nougat, the phone switches between heavy apps quickly even when multitasking. OUKITEL K5000 is a very decent daily driver great for multi-tasking, especially in this price range.
Oukitel K5000 Review: Gaming Performance
Due to the lower 1440 x 720 resolution of Oukitel K5000, the phone delivers a decent gaming experience. Even some heavy games will run with just a few frame drops here and there.
On the other hand, after more than 20 minutes of gaming, the phone will start to feel a little bit hot. The good thing is that you don’t get reduced frames because of that and you won’t lose any performance. On top of that it never got hot to the point of uncomfortable, so definitely good job with the thermals.
OUKITEL K5000 Camera Review
This time Oukitel has put two good sensors in there. The back camera is a 13MP Sony IMX135 and the front camera is a 16MP Samsung S5K3 ISOCELL sensor. Most of the time the K5000 camera will take a great shot, considering the very low price. Accurate colours and lots of details in good to OK lighting conditions with fast shutter speed.
The main camera of OUKITEL K5000 provides very decent photos in good lighting conditions even when shooting directly against the sun.
Good dynamic range, plenty of details, mostly accurate colours and less noise than most Chinese phones at this price point.
The overall camera quality is very close to budget camera champs like Redmi 4X, but falls just short of Redmi Note 4X.
As light goes down, the shutter speed goes slower. When it comes to low-light conditions, the trick is to hold the phone steady and you will get a few decent shots.
A big surprise was the video quality of Oukitel K5000 camera. Both cameras shoot FHD video. Due to the electronic stabilization, close to optical stabilization in terms of quality, it provides very stable, not shaky video with good quality. Check it out in the Oukitel K5000 Video Review.
The release of Oukitel K5000 was just recently and the selfie camera software needs improvement. I was not able to get a well focused shot with it, but you can definitely tell there’s plenty of details.
However, we contacted Oukitel and they said the first batch was shipped with camera software for dual front camera, hence the focusing issues and an OTA will be released soon to fix the issue. Shame because you also have a front facing flash which makes great low-light selfies in bars and discos.
Oukitel K5000 Price and Where to buy
And now it’s time to conclude my Oukitel K5000 review. Overall Oukitel K5000 is a solid budget phone. You won’t get much better combined value for the $150 asking price with that huge 5.7″ 18:9 Display and 5000mAh Battery. Oukitel K5000 Pros are the great display, decent cameras, great battery life and good performance with a durable body.
As cons I have to say that the front camera software needs to be updated and the phone is a bit heavy and thick. I won’t list the lack of a headphone jack as a con, since the Audio Quality was very good through the adapter provided inside the box.
