A new Oppo smartphone has been certified by TENAA in China, the A59s. Judging by its name, the A59s is going to be a variant of the A59 that was announced earlier in June this year. As is usually the case, the A59s TENAA listing also includes a few key specifications.
The Oppo A59s is going to feature a 5.5-inch sized 720 x 1280 HD resolution IPS display, with a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 4 on top for protection against scratches and damage. Powering the smartphone will be MediaTek’s MT6750 octa-core SoC clocked at 1.5 GHz, with the Mali T860 GPU handling the graphics. In terms of memory, the A59s impresses with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard memory, which can be further expanded by up to 128GB thanks to a microSD card slot.
At the back, Oppo A59s comes equipped with a 13MP primary shooter with an LED flash. The main USP of the smartphone however, will be the front-facing camera. The A59s will feature a 16MP selfie camera with screen flash, Beautify 4.0, and other selfie-enhancing features. Connectivity features listed include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n dual-band, Bluetooth 4.1 Low Energy, GPS with GLONASS, USB OTG support, and 4G VoLTE. The battery inside will be a 2980mAh unit, which is pretty decent for a mid-range smartphone. Unfortunately though, the Oppo A59s will ship with the now outdated Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system out of the box. It will measure 154.5 x 76 x 7.38mm and weigh in at 160 grams.
While there is no word regarding the smartphone’s release date yet, it is expected to be available in Rose Gold and Gold color options when it goes on sale. Also, based on the images published on the TENAA website, the smartphone seems to have a metal unibody build. We also see a physical home button on the front, which could possibly house a fingerprint sensor as well.
