OnePlus 3 could soon be permanently discontinued

The latest flagship smartphone from OnePlus, the OnePlus 3 could soon be discontinued by the manufacturer. According to a report from the folks over at GizmoChina, OnePlus is soon going to halt OnePlus 3 production to make way for a new flagship smartphone that could be called the OnePlus 3S or the OnePlus 3 Plus. Currently, only the Gold version of the OnePlus 3 is apparently in stock. The Gray version has run out of stock, claims the report.

OnePlus 3 has been in short supply for several weeks now, mainly due to the shortage of AMOLED panels. Even though OnePlus dropped the invite system with the OnePlus 3, not everyone has been able to buy one easily, due to the supply issues. As a result, OnePlus will switch to LCD panels for its next flagship, which should ensure smooth supply. In addition to the switch to LCD panels, the next flagship is also rumored to be powered by the newer Snapdragon 821 chipset, which offers a marginal performance boost over the Snapdragon 820 chipset powering the OnePlus 3. No other details are currently available, but if OnePlus is indeed working on a successor to the OnePlus 3, we do expect more info to leak on the web very soon.

The OnePlus 3 is among the most affordable flagship smartphones on the market right now, offering top end hardware specifications at roughly half the price of most other flagship Android smartphones. We expect the successor to be an equally great value for money offering, as highly competitive pricing is one of the main reasons why OnePlus has achieved great popularity in a relatively short period of time.
