Has Xiaomi developed its own chip? Will it appear on the Xiaomi Mi 6S, Mi 6, Mi Note 3 or Mi 5C? What configuration does it come at and what frequency does it run at? All these questions will be answered soon. Today Xiaoimi finally announced it will held a conference on February 28, where the company will announce its self-developed chip. The latter is dubbed as the Xiaomi Pinecone. But as the promo poster says, there are too many things unknown and impossible in the world. I mean no certain info has been disclosed, but we’ll try to make some assumptions before it’s officially announced.
Xiaomi needs an own-made chip very much. It will become a game changer decreasing dependency from Qualcomm and MediaTek. But making chips is not an easy deal. That’s why we have been getting rumors about this processor since 2015. The Xiaomi Pinecone processor is not made to compete with only Huawei’s Kirin. It’s been made to help the company to become a top brand and stand in a line with Apple, Samsung and others.
It’s rumored there are two models of Xiaomi Pinecone in process now. One of them, V670 should appear on mid-range devices such as the Xiaomi Mi 5C, while the next one, V970 is made to compete with high-end models. So it’s supposed this Pinecone chip will appear on the Xiaomi Mi 6 or Mi 6S. However, the bringing this chip to a top-notch smartphone is risky. And no one will argue if the Mi 6 comes with Snapdragon 835 CPU only. As for the Xiaomi Mi 5C, it is said to release this month. Moreover, it seems the best candidate for this deal.
The Xiaomi Mi 5C is a mid-range smartphone with crazy design and a good reputation. It’s going to become worthy successor to the well-known Xiaomi Mi 5. So many Mi fans can adopt it. This means the Mi 5C shouldn’t come with incredible features, but it should have one-two selling points. The design and Xiaomi Pinecone chip can take this role on them. So it’s quite possible the Mi 5C will be unleashed along the Pinecone chip on February 28.
