Uber could be forced to add an in-app tipping option in New York. The city’s Taxi and Limousine Commission is supporting a petition from the Independent Driver’s Guild to have Uber add a tipping option, which could increase driver income.
Since launching, Uber has made it clear that tipping isn’t required, so no option is included for it. However, drivers obviously like receiving tips and some passengers feel it’s effectively necessary.
According to the Independent Driver’s Guild, a tipping option could boost income for drivers by $300 million per year.
