Nvidia temporarily stops testing autonomous vehicles after a fatal accident with a self-driving car from Uber last week. Uber makes use of the Nvidia computer platform in his self-driving cars.

Nvidia itself tested self-driving cars in the United States, Japan and Germany, Reuters writes on Tuesday. “Ultimately, autonomous driving will be safer than when people are behind the wheel,” Nvidia said. “We temporarily suspend testing our cars on public roads.” However, the company will continue to collect data all over the world via cars that are controlled by people.

During a Uber practice test, a pedestrian died in the United States last week after a self-driving car did not stop in time. The police is investigating the accident. In addition to Uber and Nvidia, Toyota also said to temporarily stop the public testing of self-driving cars. According to the Japanese automaker, the Uber incident may have an emotional effect on the test drivers. The computers of Nvidia process the information that comes in a car, coming from sensors, cameras, and microphones. That data must be processed in a fraction of a second in order to make the right decision.
