nuTonomy recently began open trials of its autonomous vehicles in Singapore and now the vehicles will hit the streets in the United States. Recode reports the company is going to test its cars on an unknown date in the Raymond L. Flynn Marine Park industrial area in Boston, MA.
The startup, which came out of MIT, launched autonomous taxis in a small part of Singapore in August. An expanded trial in September allowed many members of the public to experience the taxis. That trial was halted in October when one of the vehicles crashed into a lorry while changing lanes.
When nuTonomy’s cars begin operating in Boston, only engineers will be allowed in them and the vehicles will be used to learn the area’s traffic signals and navigation.
