Nintendo’s Switch console is using friend codes, much to the dismay of users. It’s an old system that was introduced in 2006 and it forces users to enter in 12-digit codes. However, there are some other options.
The Switch also lets friends be added by searching for local users, searching for people you’ve played with, and by viewing friend requests.
In the future, Nintendo says it’ll be possible to add friends via social networks and Nintendo Network IDs, which are much easier to deal with than friend codes.
Reggie Fils-aime, president of Nintendo America, claimed in January, “there are no friend codes within what we’re doing.”
