As absurd as it may sound, Samsung plans to make Microsoft’s Continuum feature accessible to a wider audience. Currently, Continuum is exclusively available to those who own high-end smartphones powered by Windows Phone operating system.
However, a similar functionality might be announced by Samsung along with the Galaxy S8. The information hasn’t been confirmed by the South Korean company yet, but an leaked image purporting to be from an upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 presentation shows a Continuum-like feature.
According to AllAboutWindowsPhone, the new Continuum-like functionality will only be available for Samsung smartphones.
Also, we believe the feature will only work with high-end smartphones and only a couple of mid-range devices. It will probably depend on the hardware inside and Samsung’s strategy to make it available to mid-tier customers.
With the Continuum functionality, Windows Phone users are given full-fledged PC experiences when they connect their phones to a monitor through a dock. This means that they can add keyboards and mice to the smartphone and work on a much larger screen.
Unfortunately, it’s unclear to what extent Samsung will copy Microsoft’s Continuum feature and what users will be able to do with it.
More business-like features coming to the Galaxy S8
Since the image published is clearly a mockup of what Samsung could announce in the coming months, it’s hard to make any assumptions based on what we see.
If accurate, Samsung’s Continuum-like feature will allow users to take advantage of larger screens when connecting the phone to a monitor. Other than that, your guess is as good as our.
The report also claims this new functionality will be announced at the same time as the Galaxy S8, so we will have to wait a few more month to learn more about the Continuum-like feature.
Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy S8 sometime in April at a dedicated event, which is set to take place in New York, United States.
