New AMD 16 Core Ryzen Whitehaven Engineering Samples Surface

236

We have talked about 12-core and 16-core HEDT processors being released in the near future from AMD a couple of times already. That rumor is still indicating a possible Computext time-frame for launch. AMD hasn’t mentioned or confirmed that whatsoever obviously, but new engineering samples entries have been spotted.

While software like AIDA already is preliminary supporting 12-core / 24 threaded and 16-core / 32 threaded AMD Ryzen processors, other details remains scarce. The This processor series would be quad-channel compatible. The TDP for this product would sit in the 150 to 180 Watt range. So basically the package holds 4 CCXs.The processor would need an enthusiast chipset called X399 with socket (Land Grid Array) SP3r2 LGA and thus likely a spin-off from the server series.

New code-names of engineering samples however have leaked including the Hardware IDs which you can derrive specs from, the 16 core parts (32-threads) would get a clock of 3.0 GHz with a boost to 3.6 GHz, and that is rather amazing for a many-core CPU series.

The CPUs get code-name Whitehaven.
